He is Able

Thank you for humoring me regarding the hypothetical VBS post. I felt like a palate cleanser was in order after a bit of dreariness that is naturally inherent in the post before it, which was a discussion of being a caregiver. Now, let's get back on our familiar track. Please turn in your Bibles to Jude 24-25:

Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

We begin, appropriately, with Him. This isn't about us. Let's look at some of His attributes:

  1. He is able to keep you from falling. Does it sound like you can slide out of His hand? No. He would catch my simple behind every time if I were dumb enough to try.

  2. He is able to bring you into His blindingly perfect presence, and in this scenario, you are perfect and without faults. Does it sound like you are powerful enough to mess that up and "fall out of a state of grace" at the last minute? No.

  3. Is He grumpy, put out with us, resentful, keeping score, bitter, etc., regarding any part of this arrangement in which He takes our sins away? No. Our appearance at His throne of grace is to be a happy event. He loves you.

Christians are done being judged (John 5:24). God is a joy to know. All of this good stuff, and more, is available for free just for clearing the amazingly low bar of believing in Jesus Christ.

Therefore, much like we might say "long may he reign" about an earthly ruler, may all glory, majesty, dominion, and power be correctly ascribed to God for all time. It's already His without my say-so; I'm not even powerful enough to mess up, and that's a comfort.

Belief in Jesus is essential. The Old Covenant had God on one side and humans on the other, and the humans were doomed to fail. The New Covenant is based on the strength of a promise God made to God. We who are safely in His hand can't mess it up. Jesus prayed that those who believe in Him would be united with Him in John 17:20-26, and Ephesians 2:6 says that He got what He asked for. Our sins demand death, but we have already died with Christ (Galatians 2:20); we enjoy His eternal life in union with Him (Colossians 3:4, 1 Corinthians 6:17).
